The Island Barony of Markay sets itself apart from the rest of the Southern Baronies, leaving them to their petty border squabbles and sabre rattling without getting involved. Though it has no standing army, Markay has a sizeable fleet as well as a people’s army, that being an agreement that all able bodied men and women will take up arms to defend their lands should the Baron request it.
The volcano of Mount Canis hasn’t erupted during living memory, though the occasional plumes of smoke and deep rumblings serve to remind everyone that it is still a risk. Residing in the palace in Lorton, Baron Eliza is said to have ruled over Markay for more than a thousand years.
